Hammond breaks ground on new office building

Northwest Indiana Times, April 10, 2015

Eric Gastevich hopes to have tenants in his firm's high-end office building in the city's Oxbow Landing development by this time next year.

Gastevich, principal with ATG Real Estate Development, LLC, joined Hammond Mayor Thomas McDermott Jr. and other dignitaries at a groundbreaking Friday morning for the three-story, Class A professional office building. Class A office space is considered to be of high quality with state-of-the-art amenities and premier tenants. Officials said the building will be the first of its type in the city.

Phil Taillon, executive director of the city's planning and development department, said officials have been working for several years to bring such a facility into the city.

Gastevich said his company plans to have its home office in the approximately 35,000-square-foot structure and has gotten interest from potential tenants in the legal and medical field.

"We are pleased to present this project to the marketplace and especially pleased to put it in Hammond," he said.

The building will be just southeast of the Kennedy Avenue ramp of Interstate 80/94 and across from a Buffalo Wild Wings that Taillon indicated has been among the chain's top revenue-producing restaurants since it opened in the development.

Also going up nearby is a new, 100-room Hampton Inn. Within the month, the city could have another groundbreaking for the nearby Byway Brewing Co. facility and the city is working on closing another deal involving a medical-related facility that would use another parcel of ground in the development.
